April 9, 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, a defining moment in Canadian history. Brightspark had the opportunity to speak with Sandra O'Quinn, a Learning Specialist at the Canadian War Museum. In this video, Sandra outlines the new exhibitions at the War Museum that are designed to commemorate Vimy Ridge and its legacy. This also includes a new student program intended to give students a first-person view of different World War I characters.

Remembrance Day is an important day in the classroom, with plenty of historical and social topics to explore. Given that we are blessed to live in a country that is fairly removed from war, it is also a time to illustrate what war is like for your students – a time to learn about soldiers, their battles, and the freedoms that they fought to secure for all Canadians.

In honour of this special day, we've compiled some things you might like to share in your classroom.
